Wed.Nov12. Mike Batelle brings his crew down every fall to look for some Tuna
action. It was a beautiful day today and the fishing was good too. We ended up
with 19 Blackfin Tunas and a nice Wahoo for dinner. A steady bite kept us busy
until early afternoon and we headed for home with the sushi! Thanks as always
Mike, I'll see you soon for some Bluefin hunting hopefully. Eric.
Tue.Nov11. Gil and crew today on our second day out (see yesterdays report). We
decided to go for broke and ran 40 miles to the east looking for Tunas. It was a
bit rough but we were able to make it and we started getting bites right away.
We caught 5 out of 10 or 12 Blackfin bites and lost a nice Yellowfin. I saw a
big Blue Marlin chasing dolphins and we put out a big bait. We didn't see her
again but did catch a couple of Dolphins and missed a few more as well. On the
way into the green water later we had a 40 lb Wahoo sky on the short rigger but
didn't get hooked unfortunately. We lost quite a few fish but did bring the
sushi home at least. Thanks guys, it's always fun having you on board. I look
forward to seeing you all again soon. Eric
Mon.Nov10. Gil Shuler and the boys come up every fall to go Fishing and it's
always a good time. This year was no exception and we started off the 2 day
adventure today Live Baiting King Mackerels. It was a brisk fall morning
catching bait inshore and the mackerels were elusive for the first half of the
day and we caught just a few early on. Around noon I relocated a mile up the
line to a nice color change and the bite was on! The wind fell out, the sun came
out, and it was an exciting afternoon of triple and quadruple header bites and a
lot of topwater action right behind the boat. They were coming out of the water
after the baits! We caught our limit and headed for home with thoughts of Tuna
fishing tomorrow...
Hey Pat, quit thumbing that line!
Mon.Nov3. A split trip with the Reliance today had us bouncing out in slightly
choppy seas to look for Kings. We found them and caught our limit(minus 1). It
was good fishing and we came home a little early as it was still pretty rough.
Thanks guys, hope to do it again next year. Capt Eric. (sorry no
photo available)
Tue.Oct.21. Ron and Larry, two of my favorite customers, were in town this week
and the NE wind took a one day break from blowing and we were able to make it
out the inlet this morning. Scott and Eric jumped on as well opting to leave
their 27 ft at the dock and join us rocking and bouncing on the Boss Lady. It
was a bit choppy all day with a leftover NE 7 ft swell and W 20 kt winds
on top of it. The fishing was a bit challenging as well with scattered Dolphins
in deep water and not biting too well. We ended up with about a dozen for dinner
and beat our way home with the rest of the fleet. These guys took it all in
stride as they are all experienced fisherman and it was a great day despite the
conditions. Thanks to all for a fun day and I look forward to seeing you again
soon. Larry, we still have to get you a Blue Marlin to match Ron's last spring!
Eric.
Fri.Oct17. A choppy but good day with a Make-up party today. We never found any
big numbers of dolphin but caught a nice Wahoo, a King, two Dolphins, and 6
Blackfin Tunas. Enjoy the Sushi guys, we'll see you next time. Capt Eric.
Sat.Oct.4. You couldn't ask for a better day of fishing than we had today. We
headed up to the NE about 40 miles to look for Yellowfins and found Blackfin
Tunas instead and lots of them! We had over 50 bites and ended up catching 32
and 2 Dolphins! Wait, that's not all: I've been trying to catch the Boss Lady
owners Lloyd and Mary Hadley a Blue Marlin for 3 years and we've gotten close a
few times but scored a touchdown today with a nice 300 lb +. She ate one of our
Blackfins right off the hook behind the boat, then ate my shotgun bait and the
fight was on! She almost spooled an 80 before we got everything cleared and 30
minutes later Jay had her on the leader. A nice fish and a great day! Check out
the photos including Mrs. Griffin going swimming for her first Blue Marlin. Capt
Eric.

Sat.Sept27. Another beautiful day in the gulfstream on the Boss Lady today. It
was the first day all week anyone could get out to fish due to the NorthEaster
sitting on us and blowing 40 for days. We were happy to see a relatively calm
inlet this morning and 6 boats made it out of Hatteras to see what the storm had
left us. There was a big swell running but the winds were calm all day and the
fishing was great! We found the bailers on a nice color change and bailed off
and on most of the day ending up with 57 Dolphin. Then we trolled off to look
for a Wahoo or Sailfish and caught one of each! A great day all around. Thanks
Bill and crew, we'll see you in the fall for some Tuna action. Eric.
Sat.Sept13. Bite Me Captain Jay and I combined resources for our trip today and
it turned out well. We caught a bakers dozen of dolphin and a nice sailfish!
Dinner and a movie once again. Thanks to our crew and congratulations on a
trophy fish! Capt Eric.
Wed.Sept3. A great half day trip today. Hurricane Hannah kept us inside the
inlet where we caught a bunch of bottom fish including bluefish, hogfish, and
flounder. We enjoyed the beautiful day and watched the large surf breaking in
the inlet. (no photo available) Eric.
Tues.Aug12. A great wedding should always start with a good day of fishing. Our
crew today were down for the week for the big day and took today off to prepare
properly. It was a beautiful day in the ocean and we caught a bunch of Spanish
Mackerel. Most were too small to keep but we did end up with 6 or 7 nice
keepers. All in all it was a great morning. Best of luck to the happy couple, we
hope to see you again next year. Capt Eric.
Sun.Aug3. Stuart Henderson and crew joined us today off shore on the Boss Lady.
It was a beautiful day and we caught a few nice fish. We caught 2 Barracudas and
a big Amberjack for releases and a nice Wahoo and two Gaffer Dolphin for dinner.
We did better than most as it was slow today so I was thankful for what we
caught. Thanks guys, we hope to see you again soon. Capt. Eric.

Tues.July29. Paul Shanayda and crew caught some good dinner today in the
gulfstream. We picked away at the Dolphins on two different weedlines and ended
up with 24. Then we trolled on in and caught a nice Wahoo to finish things off.
Good day all around. See you all again soon, Capt Eric.
Sunday.July27. Dr Dodson's crew had an interesting day today on the Boss Lady.
There was a fairly good billfish bite on so we went out there and caught 2
Sailfish and pulled off a White Marlin! The Dolphins were scarce so we went in
to a wreck and tried to bottom fish but it got too windy and rough to hold
bottom. Great job to my anglers today. Eric.

Fri.July25. We caught a Sailfish early today and worked all day to finally find
some Dolphins late in the day. We were the last boat in but it was worth it.
Thanks guys, it was a nice day, I hope to see you all again soon. Capt Eric.

Tue.July15. Ted Peek and crew had a great day offshore on the Boss Lady. We
caught some nice dolphin, including one BIG gaffer and we caught a White Marlin!
You know what I call it: dinner and a movie! Thanks Ted, we hope to see you all
again soon. Capt Eric.
Thurs.July3. A half day inshore trip today and we bottom fished on a wreck and
caught some Black Sea Bass and Triggerfish and saw some Barracudas. Then we
trolled closer to the beach and caught some Spanish Mackerel. It was slick calm
and sunny and a relaxing day on the water. Thanks guys, we hope to see you again
soon. Capt. Eric.
Wed.July2. James Davenport and crew had a good day on the water today. We found
a small school of Dolphins and bailed a few and we caught some gaffers trolling
throughout the day. We also had a Sailfish on briefly but he spit the hook on
his first jump. It was a beautiful day and everyone got to pull on some fish.
Enjoy the Mahi Mahi guys. Capt.Eric.
Fri.June27. Sarah Monk, Ronnie Love and the jello shooter crew joined us today
for their annual adventure. It was blowing 25, 7 ft seas and only 5 boats fished
out of Hatteras. It was a rough ride but the fishing was good and we caught some
Dolphins, a Yellowfin Tuna, a White Marlin, and one out of two Sailfish! This
crew took it all in stride and had a great day. Congrats to Joe and Ronnie on
their first Billfish! I look forward to seeing you in September. Capt Eric.

This is what happens when you catch your first White Marlin on the Sundown. My
friend Jefferey Midgett getting an involuntary cool off.
Wed.June25. Bill Profit and crew fished with us today on the Boss Lady. Bill has
fished with me before and I always enjoy having him onboard. It was a bit slow
today but we caught some Dolphins and it was a good day offshore. Thanks guys,
we hope to see you again soon. Eric.
Fri.June20. Another beautiful and busy day on the Boss
Lady. Our crew caught their limit of 60 Dolphin from a few schools we found. It
was a good day of fishing and plenty of dinner for everyone. Capt. Eric.
Thurs.June19. A make up party today had a stellar day
of fishing! It was slick calm, blue water, and we caught our limit of Bailer
Dolphin and a nice Cobia in the first hour, then went Marlin fishing and saw
three blue ones! We caught the biggest one(about 400 lbs) and she put on a great
show with multiple jumps and runs close to the boat. It was a fun day and we
caught dinner and a movie for sure! Capt. Eric. Mon.June16. My old buddy Jim and his family did their
annual Boss Lady trip and it was another beautiful day offshore. We found some
dolphin and caught 25 for dinner and had a shot on a Blue Marlin. A Barracuda
and a few Amberjack were caught as well. Jeff and Todd supervised the cold beer
and kept 1st Mate Jeff in line, and Jim Sr. chilled on the bridge and guarded
his favorite hat so I couldn't steal it and didn't get sick at all. A good day
overall. Next time we'll actually catch that Blue one (notice how I entice you
back for more). Thanks as always, it was good to hang out with you guys and
catch up. Jim, stay off the skimboard, you're not 18 anymore. Eric.

Sat.June14. Dr. Lloyd Griffin, Lloyd Jr. and Jamie had an interesting day in the
gulfstream today. We caught a skipjack tuna and bridle rigged him up and slow
trolled through a good Marlin bite. A little while later a few Gaffer Dolphin
showed up and we hooked 2 and then 2 White marlins followed up and we hooked one
of those. Doc had a good fight on a TLD rod and we caught it soon after.(see
photos). Then we continued on trolling the live(but tired) skipjack and a little
while later a big Blue Marlin ate him! He pulled off a bunch of string but then
came off. Oh well, it was a cool bite and a beautiful day. Jamie: send me more
photos and I'll post them. Eric.
Fri.June13. A half day inshore trip again today and we
caught 23 Spanish Mackerel, a Bonito Mackerel, and believe it or not a Gaffer
Dolphin within a mile of the beach! We saw flying fish too. No Cobia sighted
today but I know we'll see one soon. Enjoy the fish guys, come back and see us
next year. Eric.
Wed.June11. A half day inshore trip produced a dozen Spanish Mackerel and a
Bluefish. Beautiful weather and good fishing. Thanks to our crew, hope to see
you again next year. Captain Eric.
Tues.June10. A make up party today caught a great
variety of fish. We caught a King Mackerel to start, then Vertical Jigged a
bunch of Amberjacks, a Cobia, and a Red Snapper on a wreck. Then trolled off and
caught a couple of Dolphin and a Sailfish. Then we Jigged up another dozen big
Amberjacks on an offshore wreck, and then trolled in and caught another
Sailfish! Not a bad day for sure, with plenty of action. Hope to see you all
again in the future. Captain Eric.
Mon.June9. A half day inshore trip yielded a good catch of Spanish Mackerel and
a Bluefish today. Harold Smith and crew had a relaxing day on the water and
brought home dinner. We looked for a Cobia as there have been some big ones
around but didn't see one today. We did also score a nice straw hat (not
pictured) we found floating in the inlet. Thanks guys, I hope to see you all
again soon. Eric.
Sat.June7. Lloyd Griffin, family and Friends had a great day catching Gaffer
Dolphin today. We ended up with 14 nice ones (cleaned on the way home so no
catch photo). Jose and son Joe caught some nice ones (Thanks Jose for the great photos!). A great crew
and a beautiful day. See you all again soon. Eric.
Thurs.June5. John King and friends were with us today
in the gulfstream. We had a good day and caught 16 nice gaffer Dolphin and a
Blackfin Tuna and had a good shot on a 150 lb Blue Marlin! It was quite choppy
and windy conditions but our crew hung in there and we did well. It was awesome
seeing that Blue one 10 ft from the boat trying to eat the teaser and everyone
got a good look for sure. Thanks guys, we hope to see you all again soon. Check
out the photo I got of the Dolphin, lucky for sure! Capt Eric.

Wed.June4. Dave Wallingford fishes with me every year and we have had some
memorable days for sure. Today was a bit slow but it was a beautiful day and we
caught dinner and saw 2 Blue Marlins. One of which was possibly the biggest one
I've ever seen, but we couldn't get a hook up on either one. Dave and his crew
know how it goes and I wish we could have seen one jumping behind the boat but
we had fun anyway. Thanks guys, I look forward to seeing you all next year. p.s.
Dave: you're right, It is the best day of the year, I enjoy them all, see you
soon, Eric.
Sat.May31. A split trip with a church group today found us fishing on a nice
Saturday. We went Jigging and caught a few Amberjacks, then went trolling
and caught 7 Dolphins and a nice Wahoo. It was an enjoyable day and I thank our
crew. Great job Austin with the biggest wreck fish! Capt. Eric.
Mon.May26. Wayland(see Saturdays report) put the
pressure on and told me it was his father in law's turn to catch a Blue one
today. Never one to turn down a challenge(or miss an opportunity to go Marlin
fishing at all), I accepted and off we went. It was a beautiful day, perfect
conditions for Marlin fishing and we set out the big stuff first thing. It
didn't take too long before I got to yell my favorite line: "There he is!". Big
hole bent pole and the fight was on. The fish put on a great jumping show(even
though Wayland missed it) and an hour later we were close to getting the leader
when another boat fighting one got pulled to within shouting distance and I was
sweating it. He caught and quickly released his fish before our lines tangled
and we were able to get ours a few minutes later! A close call for sure. We
raised another even bigger fish later in the afternoon but couldn't get a hook
in her. It was happening with over 20 Blue ones seen today and some Whites and
Sails caught as well. Congratulations Terry, hope your shoes dried out. Thanks
as always Wayland, we'll see you in July. Eric.
Sat.May24. Wayland Harris has been fishing with me for
quite a few years and brings his family down to Hatteras every summer. His
father Dick has been fishing a long time and had never caught a Blue Marlin. Not
until today that is! It was a great bite, head and shoulders out of the water on
the shortrigger bait and we all saw it happen in slow motion and held our breath
while Jeff fed her through the rigger clip and set the hook. Oh yeah, I should
mention here that the wind had just picked up to 30 knots 20 minutes earlier and
it was blowing a Gale and raining. We also hooked a gaffer at the same time and
chaos ensued. As the Gaffer came aboard I heard those 3 words: "I see gold!", no
more line on the reel, so I turned the boat toward the fish and we chased her
down at a high rate of speed to gain precious line. About an hour later we got
the leader and pulled alongside a 350 lb Blue Marlin. A really beautiful fish
still showing Blue bands of color and a clean release. Congratulations Dick, it
was a great day and an epic battle! Eric.
Fri.May23. Richard Nyung and crew from S. Korea had a
good day in the gulfstream. The fishing was a bit slow but we caught dinner, 5
gaffer Dolphin and an Albert, and saw a Blue Marlin but couldn't get a hook in
him. Thanks for coming guys, enjoy the sushi. Capt. Eric.
May16/17. Blown out due to high winds and large seas. Wed.May14. Kevin Walker has fished with me in past
years and brought his buddies to fish with us today and it was a great time. The
PBR's were flowing early on deck and only one crewmember spit one out on the
ride offshore. It was a beautiful sunny day with light wind and a solid 10 ft
east swell running. We caught a handful of Gaffer Dolphins throughout the
morning and then around 1:00 got bushwhacked by a pack of 8 or 10 nice ones. We
hooked 4 and as the first one came up to the boat he had 3 more following close
behind. 1st mate Jeff grabbed a gaff and freegaffed 2 in a row! It was
impressive and everyone was hooting and hollering as the hookless dolphin
flipped around on deck. We then procceeded to catch the other 4 hooked ones and
increased our catch to a cool dozen. Thanks for coming guys, we'll see you next
time. Eric.
Sun.May11. Well, we've been having a good string of
good fishing days when not everyone in the fleet has, so we were due for a slow
one. I really wanted to catch this crew a mess of fish as they were a cool bunch
who fish a lot and had a great attitude but it wasn't our day. We did catch 3
Dolphins for dinner and it got rough and windy in the afternoon and the whole
fleet came home by 1:00. Thanks for coming guys, I hope to see you all again
soon. Capt Eric.
Sat.May10. Boss Lady Owner Dr. Lloyd Griffin, family,
and friends had a busy day catching Gaffer Dolphin and Wahoos. It was a pretty
day with light winds and we saw a Blue Marlin in the afternoon but couldn't get
a bite out of her. Lloyd jr drove home and I enjoyed the view. It was a good day
overall. ps- Mike, quit getting Dolphin slime on my carpet mat. Eric.
Sun.May4. Today was one of those days offshore anglers
dream about and I am going to post more than the usual report including lots of
pictures. Ron Roncadori has fished with me for quite a few years and I consider
him one of my best customers. He and his wife Julie chartered us today and Ron
told me he wanted to catch a Wahoo and a Blue Marlin. I've caught him a White
and a Sail in the last 2 years and He wanted to complete his Grand Slam. So we
set off this morning with rainstorms and choppy seas and high hopes. We started
out in my current Tuna/Wahoo hole and made short work of 2- 45+ lb Wahoos.
Mission 1/2 complete. Then we headed offshore to look for the Guy with the
Pointy nose. The wind fell out and it turned into a beautiful sunny day. I
worked several weedlines and lots of blue water to no avail then decided I
needed to be a little deeper and started pounding the 100 fathom line to the
southwest. I walked downstairs to check on our crew and told them to be patient
and I thought we were in a good spot and they were happy and patient as usual.
Sometime after 2:00 the plug on the flatline tripped and Jeff's and my eyes were
glued to the spread. I saw a 200 lb Blue Marlin following the teaser and started
shouting. He whacked at the teaser, then the flatline in turn 3 times each and
the last time I was pulling the teaser away from him a second 300 lb
Blue came streaking across the spread behind him and ate the short rigger bait.
BIG HOLE- BENT POLE! Many jumps and hoots and hollers, and over an hour later we
landed him and Ron told me he was done (no more Blue Marlins Today please) So we
cruised back into the Rocks and caught some Gaffer Dolphin and another Wahoo
around a half sunken sailboat
(see photos)
and there were Tunas chasing
flying fish out of the water everywhere. We hooked one but lost him to a hungry
shark. We were the only boat out of Hatteras to catch a Blue Marlin today! It was a day to remember and I feel blessed to have been there. Like my
friend Jay said- One of those days you think - I can't believe I get paid to do
this. (Of course tommorrow I have to tear apart the Head that broke and I won't
be saying that but that's OK). Thanks Ron and Julie for a great day. Thanks to
Nicole for Dolphin wrangling and Trafford for the great photos. (look closely at
the second one) PS: Larry, we missed you- we look forward to seeing you in the
fall. Capt. Eric.

Sat.May3. Dave McIntosh and crew today had a good first ever offshore experience
and caught 4 big Yellowfins and a Dolphin. It was a good Hatteras day with blue
skies and calm seas. I am grateful for the good weather and good fishing lately.
Eric.
Thurs.May1. Another beautiful day in the Gulfstream
today. We had a great catch of 10 Tunas, a Wahoo, and a Dolphin. The fishing is
getting better by the day and I am getting into the Spring routine of fishing
regularly, watching weather and sattelite imagery, rigging new tackle, and
studying all the usual variables that help us to stay on top and catch more
fish. The tunas are here so don't hesitate, come on down and let's go fishing!
Capt. Eric.
Sat.Apr.26. A good steady bite today on the Boss Lady.
It was great weather and we caught 9 Blackfin Tunas, 3 Yellowfin Tunas, 2
skipjacks, and 7 Dolphins! Lots of action to keep our crew busy and lots of
dinner to take home. Thanks for fishing with us today guys, it was a good day
all around! Capt Eric.
Thurs.Apr.24. Great fishing today on the Boss Lady.
The Tunas were hungry and we were there to hook 'em! We caught 2 yellowfins, 8
blackfins, and 10 nice gaffer dolphins. It was a beautiful day and we caught
dinner and 1/2. Thanks Chris and the crew, we will see you all again soon. ps:
Larry, don't look so serious. Eric.
APRIL 2008: I would like to introduce my new mate Jeff Roland and welcome him
aboard. Here he is with one of the tunas we caught today. He and I look forward
to fishing with you all this season on the Boss Lady. Barry has moved on to
Captain the Runaway. Many thanks from me for a great 2 years and we wish him a great first season
on his new ride. Barry, As far as the 2008 Blue Marlin comp. goes: I'm
ready, bring it! Eric.
Fri.Apr.18. Calm seas and good fishing for or make-up
charter today. We caught 2 gaffer Dolphin in the morning, then a good sized
Wahoo around midday, then a little later the Tunas hit us and we caught 5 nice
ones. A shark ate most of one in one clean bite, but we landed the rest of them.
The Yellowfins are definitely here and we are glad to see them! Thanks for
fishing with us guys, we hope to see you again soon. Capt. Eric.
Sun.Apr.13. Brian, Mike, and the guys had a good time
this morning catching amberjacks on the jigging rods on a wreck. We caught a
dozen or so, kept 3 for dinner and released the rest. We trolled for the rest of
the afternoon and caught one out of three yellowfin bites. It was a beautiful
day and a great crew. Thanks guys, we'll see you next time. Eric.
Fri/Sat. Apr.11/!2. Stuart Kennedy and crew today caught the First Blue Marlin
of the year! It was our first one as well as the first one for the Hatteras
Fleet. About 300 lbs and it put on a good fight jumping on the surface and
passing the boat and then diving deep and pulling hard for the remainder of the
battle. We also caught 6 yellowfins, an amberjack and a king. It was a great
spring day with calm seas and good fishing. We went again on Sat and it was a
bit rougher so we came home a little early after catching a yellowfin and 2
dolphins. The tunas are showing up and some dolphins as well so come on down and
let's go fishing! Thanks Stuart, we hope to see you all again and
congratulations Shayne on your first Blue Marlin! Capt Eric.

March 16.
Annual Boatyard Work: We are putting the finishing touches on the boat (check
out my hand painted lettering on the stern, that took me a while!). We are ready
for the new season and I can't wait to go fishing! Plenty of big blackfin tuna
and some yellowfins as well were caught this week. It definitely looks like
Spring is here so make plans and call or e-mail me to book your day. We'll see
you soon. Eric.
Sun.Mar.2.2008 Gus Stalling and the boys got into the bluefin action we've been
having lately, today on the Boss Lady. It was a typical early spring day with a
NE breeze and just rough enough to keep you on your toes. The tunas were
everywhere! We could see them in schools like torpedoes just under the surface
cruising downsea all around us at times. We caught a nice 80 lber first and put
him in the box for the ride home, then proceeded to sport fish for the rest of
the afternoon. We are only allowed to keep one per day of this size so we caught
and released the rest. Everyone caught one and we had a smooth ride home as the
winds died out in the afternoon. There were a few blackfins caught too, I didn't
hear about any wahoos today but there have been some around. It looks like it's
going to be a good March as the spring fishing is already heating up with
Bluefins, Blackfins, Yellowfins, and Wahoos so come on down and soak a
line! Thanks to my crew today, I hope to see you all again soon. Capt Eric

Feb. 15. 2008. Well it's a windy rainy day in
February and I'm sitting at the computer dreaming of a warm spring day in the
gulfstream with 6 tunas screaming line off the 50w's. If you're reading this you
are probably doing the same thing. I hope everyone is getting through the winter
alright, it is almost over! March is just around the corner and we have been
catching blackfins and some bluefins regularly already so the yellowfins should
be here as soon as the water warms up. I'm starting to get calls for weekends in
April and May so book your trip soon if you want a specific date. We will start
fishing in early March
as usual. Hatteras inlet is still the best deal on the east coast as rates have
soared to $1600 or more at other locations above and below us. Average price in
Hatteras is still around $1350 and the fishing is excellent and the run is
shorter too! I look forward to seeing you all soon, feel free to e-mail me with
any questions or just to say hello(it gets lonely down here this time of year).
Talk soon, Capt. Eric.
